Standard low-density tapes (0.2 - 0.4 g/cm³) are porous and may shear under high pressures, risking micro-leaks. High-density tapes (0.8 - 1.2 g/cm³) provide structured physical sealing, preventing gas leaks and blowout failure under high pressure.

For standard tapered pipe threads (NPT/BSP), we recommend 3 to 5 wraps, applied in the direction of the thread spiral (clockwise when looking down the pipe end). Over-wrapping can prevent correct thread engagement and overstress the female fitting, while under-wrapping may cause leak paths.
